Scavenger Hunts

HERITAGE is what is left behind to us from the past—stories, graveyards, old churches, barns, houses, oldmills, ancient dirt roads, bridges, battlefields, stonewalls, farms and fields, villages and courthouse towns, as well as letters, diaries, photographs, and artifacts from them. The Mosby Heritage Area was established in 1995 to put a spotlight on the amazing heritage left to us on the landscapes of Loudoun, Fauquier, Clarke, and western Prince Williams. Some places here have more than heritage—you can feel the past at them enough to send a tingle down your back.

These four county heritage scavenger hunts will introduce you to the nature of the historical landscape in the Mosby Heritage Area. You will discover some of the neatest sites yet preserved. Make a day of it--bring a picnic basket and your camera and go explore.

Loudoun County is in the heart of the Mosby Heritage Area.  One of Virginia’s most historic and scenic counties, Loudoun begs to be loved, and to do that, it needs to be explored.  This scavenger hunt is an exploration of Leesburg (the county seat), northern Loudoun, and southern Loudoun.  It gives a sampling of the best the county has to offer.  Meant as a family outing, it doesn’t all have to be done at once.
